Impact of climate and environmental changes on women: Open call for research papers

Today, Earth faces numerous environmental challenges. The home we inhabit temporarily is becoming increasingly polluted and depleted at an unpredictable rate. Temperatures are rising sharply, air currents are shifting, icebergs are melting, oceans are facing pollution, and flora and fauna are experiencing irreversible impacts, including strong winds, floods, extreme winter heat, summer snow, desertification, food security challenges, and more.

The list of these worsening issues could go on indefinitely, as each geographical location experiences unique consequences. These challenges are further aggravated by the relentless exploitation of natural resources by large corporations, as well as the unmeasured increase in environmental risks due to wars and armed conflicts, such as the strain on water resources, mineral extraction, loss of arable land, and more.

As a women’s fund, we recognize the urgent need to respond to these environmental crises with informed decision-making, as these issues affect women uniquely. Furthermore, in all dangerous situations, the most vulnerable populations—especially women and girls—are impacted the most.

To address these challenges from a feminist perspective, the Women’s Fund is announcing an open call for research grants on climate and environmental justice issues. We welcome studies on topics including:

  • Climate change (in general)
  • Water resource challenges
  • Food insecurity
  • Health and other consequences of mining
  • Unpaid/care work of women affected by climate change
  • Environmental impacts of wars and armed conflicts on women
  • Effects of climate and environmental changes on women from intersectional groups (LBT+, elderly, disabled, and others)
  • Impacts of natural disasters on different groups of women
  • Other relevant themes proposed by applicants

We invite interested applicants to submit a detailed research proposal via the link provided. We are particularly interested in qualitative studies, including interviews and personal stories from women affected by these issues. Essay ideas are also welcome.

Recipients are expected to submit an analytical report of up to 50 pages or a comprehensive article of up to 18 pages. Essays will be accepted in essay format.
