Position Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and committed individual to join us as the Feminist Oral Stories (FemStory) Archive Coordinator. This role is pivotal in documenting and celebrating the rich tapestry of women’s experiences, ensuring that their voices are heard and honored.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop inclusive and intersectional strategies to collect oral stories from women of diverse backgrounds, amplifying voices often marginalized or silenced.
  • Conduct respectful and empowering interviews with women, recognizing and valuing their agency and expertise.
  • Curate and maintain an archive that reflects the diversity of women’s experiences, cultures, and identities.
  • Foster partnerships with community organizations and grassroots movements to expand the reach and impact of the project.
  • Lead outreach efforts to engage storytellers and build awareness of the archive as a platform for feminist expression.
  • Provide mentorship and support to the femstory collective and volunteers, nurturing a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Ensure that the project upholds feminist ethics, including informed consent and the right to control one’s own narrative.
  • Cultivate ongoing relationships with storytellers and femstory members, acknowledging their contributions and fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.

Qualifications:

  • A deep commitment to feminist principles and social justice. Experience in oral history, community organizing, or related fields, with a focus on intersectionality and inclusivity. 
  • Familiarity with archival principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a sensitivity to power dynamics and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, valuing diverse perspectives and experiences.
  • Proficiency in audio/video recording equipment and software is preferred.
