Weaving Stories from Chambarak

“Weaving Stories from Chambarak” zine, based on group oral history and dialogue methodologies, aims to share the stories and reflections of a group of teenage girls* from the Chambarak community of Armenia’s Gegharkunik region. These narratives address issues that directly or indirectly affect their lives and communities, ranging from gender inequality to the complexities of war and peace.

Navigating Human Rights Realities: Traditional Societal Norms and LGBTQ+ Hate Crimes in Contemporary Armenia

This thesis investigates the impact of traditional societal norms on LGBTQ+ hate crimes in Armenia. Grounded in anthropological and human rights theories, it employs a qualitative methodology, utilizing semi-structured interviews and secondary sources such as human rights reports and academic literature. The research reveals that deeply entrenched societal norms and institutional barriers significantly contribute to the prevalence of hate crimes against LGBTQ+ individuals. Findings indicate that while LGBTQ+ organizat ons provide essential support and advocacy, their efforts are often hindered by legal and societal challenges. 

Women in the armed forces globally and in-context of Armenia (an emerging democracy)

Sona Nikoghosyan’s essay focuses on the experience of women in the armed forces, critically evaluate gender equality and the risk of sexual violence. Finally, it examines precedents for the voluntary inclusion of women in the armed forces and considers the extent to which the Armenian Ministry of Defence is considering the worries of violence against women.

ANTI-GENDER CAMPAIGNS, RHETORICS, AND OBJECTIVES IN POST-REVOLUTIONARY ARMENIA

The English translation is the abbreviate version of the original report, which presents the methodology of research and theoretical framework, brief analysis of the studied cases, the background of anti-gender campaigns and the local trends, as well as the conclusion. The English version does not include two sections of the research, which studies in detail cases of gender-based issues, the denial of women rights and massification of attacks against LGBT persons. The sociological research has been conducted by “Socioscope” Societal Research and Consultancy Center NGO funded by “Women’s Fund Armenia” NGO.
