Women’s Rights Day Every Day: March 8 Events

If you follow us, you are probably aware that for the past two years, the Women’s Fund Armenia has been providing grants for organizing March events under the theme “Women’s Rights Day: Every Day.” This year is no exception.

Below, we present the diverse programs selected through the grant, which will take place throughout the month in various regions of Armenia:

Armine Zakaryan – If you live in Vanadzor or nearby areas and have a particular love for coffee (not a requirement), this initiative is for you. The “March 8th Conversations Over Coffee” initiative aims to create a warm atmosphere where local women can freely discuss and share their thoughts, experiences, and expectations about March 8, as well as explore the true meaning of International Women’s Day. The goal is to provide a platform for women in the Lori region’s Vanadzor, Tumanyan, and Pambak communities to initiate discussions about women’s rights and empowerment.

YWCA of Armenia – On March 15, YECCA invites you to Noyemberyan, Tavush, to watch an intellectual game, “What? Where? When?” The game will feature key community figures, including representatives from local government, healthcare, education, social services, culture, civil society organizations, and law enforcement. The event aims to promote women’s rights and expand their opportunities.

Milena Avetisyan – The next stop is Gegharkunik. In Vardenik, Milena will implement the project “A Reality Covered in Flowers,” a six-day course that reinterprets the concept of March 8, its significance, and origins. Participants will explore the role and perception of women in society, discuss self-confidence, and address societal and relational issues. The course is designed for local women and girls who will gather to talk about their rights, personal boundaries, self-care, and social stereotypes.

Kristine Balayan – Have you ever heard of a bread exhibition? And a feminist one at that? If this intrigues you, we invite you to “Bread as a Symbol of Resistance: Artsakh Women Remember,” a feminist exhibition dedicated to the memory of the nine-month blockade of Artsakh, using bread as a symbol of resilience and survival. The project involves women with special needs and widows of fallen soldiers, highlighting their strength and struggle for a dignified future. The event will also feature an interactive zone where visitors can knead dough themselves, gaining a deeper understanding of the cost of bread during the blockade. This is a great opportunity to engage with Artsakh women, listen to their stories, and discuss women’s rights in conflict zones.

GOALS – On March 8, football lovers (and not only) are invited to the “My Game, My Rules” event in Gyumri, Yerevan, and Aparan to break gender stereotypes and show that girls can play football just as well as boys. Participants will perform a flash mob to emphasize that sports belong to everyone.

Queerlab Armenia – Art, club culture, electronic music… On March 9, in honor of Women’s Rights Day, the FLINTA* drag event “Glitter and Resistance” will take place, focusing on feminist values. The event will feature performances by queer artists, promoting dialogue, self-expression, and a collective celebration with the audience. The main goal is to provide a strong platform for FLINTA* artists to express their identities and life experiences while discussing gender-based violence, feminist values, and social justice.

Berd Women’s Resource Center Foundation – On March 15, the “FemForum: Women’s Forum Theater Against Stereotypes” will be held, dedicated to International Women’s Day. The audience, consisting of women over 50, will be active participants in the theater. The event will address community-related stereotypes, including gender-based discrimination, patriarchy, social norms, and women’s political participation.

Music of Armenia“Women’s Musical Month” is a month-long festival dedicated to Armenian women musicians and their art. It will take place on March 8 and either March 13 or 15 in Gyumri, at the Narek Charitable Foundation event hall. The festival brings together musicians from different backgrounds, offering them opportunities for new collaborations and experience-sharing.

FemInno – If you come across engaging digital content about women’s rights on social media, know that the “March 8 is About Equality” digital campaign has begun. It aims to raise awareness of gender equality issues, including equal pay, education, leadership, and representation. By amplifying young girls’ voices, the initiative challenges stereotypes, celebrates achievements, and encourages a new generation of feminists to continue the chain of change.
